

Joan was born on July 11, 1928, to the late John and Ninna Nelson. She graduated from Ensley High School, attended the University of Alabama, and then married her sweetheart Tom Farley in 1949. Together they had a lifetime of adventures that included travels, camping, lifelong friendships, church events, time with family, and too many interests to list. Most importantly, together they created a home full of love and support for their children and the generations that followed. Her love for family and thoughtfulness for others will be her greatest legacies.
She was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church and the Friendship Class there since 1963. She was a member of the Elgethian Literary Club and the Eastern Women’s Committee of 50.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Farley; daughters Laura Farley, Carol (Dale) Lewis, Yolanda (Alan) Taylor; granddaughters Delia Lewis, Whitney (Ben) Jackson, Ally (Robert) Coleman, Kelsey (Matthew) Walk; 7 great-grandchildren, Farley, Luke, Sloane, Claire, Rylee Jo, Hattie Joy, Bo; special friend Teresa Tennyson; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and precious friends.
A funeral service. officiated by Rev. Ed Sims, Sr. will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Monday, March 4, 2019, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Huffman United Methodist Church.
