Joe W. Andrews Jr. passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025 at the age of 101. A native of Birmingham, born July 30, 1923, son of Joe W. Andrews Sr. and Naomi Griffin Andrews. He attended Norwood Grammar School, Phillips High School and then entered the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army and served with the 86th infantry division, 343rd regiment, in Germany and later in the Philippine Islands. Upon completing military service, he returned to the University of Alabama to graduate with a B.S. Degree in chemistry/geology. After graduating he was employed by U.S. Steel where he retired after 35 years. He then was employed by Rust Engineering and later by Promac Inc. His engineering career totaled 45 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann, with whom he was married for 76 years and by one son, D. Bruce Andrews and one daughter, Sharon A. Sharp (Bobby), two grandchildren; Katherine A. Higgins (Andrew), and Lindley S. Curtis (Mark), and three great grandchildren; Claire and Wesley Curtis and Helen Higgins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, J. Richard Andrews, his son R. Clark Andrews, his granddaughter, Helen A. Gilliland (Patrick) and his grandson R. Clark Andrews Jr.
