

Joseph Charles Castleberry,Jr., age 72 of Center Point, AL passed away on February 27, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1957 to Joseph Charles Castleberry, Sr. and Virginia Mae Hodnett Castleberry. He graduated from Inglenook Academy in 1973. After school he began working at Gorgas Steam Plant. In 1974 he enlisted in the Navy.
Joseph was deployed in 1976 on the U.S.S. Eisenhower. In 1979 he completed his term aboard the U.S.S Midway. In 1980 he returned to work at Gorgas Steam Plant and rekindled an old flame with Rita G. Garner. He bought a house and they married in 1981. In 1984 they had their first son, Joseph Charles Castleberry, III and in 1986 their son, John P. Castleberry was born.
In the year 2000 Joseph left the power company and began working as a millwright out of Millwright Union Local 1192. He retired in 2008 at the age of 54 and in 2010 he moved to Center Point to care for his elderly father.
Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening throughout his life. He loved nothing more than a fresh tomato and mayonnaise sandwich with salt and pepper; second only to, fried green tomatoes. Needless to say, he vigorously loved his own home-grown tomatoes.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his stepdaughter, Tori. He is Survived by his loving wife, their two sons, grandchildren; his two sisters, Dona Castleberry Nelson and Amelia Castleberry.
A graveside service will be held at Coosa Valley Baptist Cemetery 3607 Martin St. S, Pell City, AL 35054 on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel for visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the graveside.
