Josephine Renta Tortorice, age 78, of Hoover, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2025. She was born to Sam and Virginia Renta on November 8, 1946. Josephine grew up in a large Italian family and was the oldest of five children. She was a 1965 graduate of John Carroll High School. Josephine lived intentionally bringing joy, love, and laughter to others.
She married the love of her life, Michael Tortorice on March 6, 1968. Together they shared a long and happy marriage of 56 years. Josephine took joy in spending time with family and friends, cooking, traveling, and sewing. Her greatest pride came in raising her three daughters, and later enjoying precious years with her beloved grandchildren.
Josephine was a devoted catholic and longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She enjoyed being of service to her community through dedicated involvement. She began a Mother’s Day Out program for young families in the parish, was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Guild, Caring Hands Crochet group, and a committed Adorer in the Chapel of Our Savior for 30 years. Josephine was awarded a place on the Honor Tree for her many years of dedicated service to her parish and the Alter Sodality.
She is proceeded in death by her parents; and husband Michael Tortorice. Josephine is survived by her three daughters Christine Feenker (Chris), Michelle Elliott (Kevin), and Maria Gibbs (Ted). Six grandchildren Madeline Feenker, Nick Feenker, Jacob Feenker, Cole Elliott, Ava Elliott, and Thomas Gibbs. Her brothers, Michael Renta (Debbie), Norman Renta (Gale), Sam Renta, Jr. (Tiffany), and Paul Renta (Yvonne).
In a life given to service of so many, Josephine poured her love and dedication into her family, friends, and most of all the good Lord. She was a light to all who knew her and now receives the gift of eternal life with Christ.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, AL from 1:30-2:30 pm Friday, March 21, 2025, followed by a funeral Mass at 2:30 pm. Graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
