Joyce was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Woodlawn High School. She faithfully attended South Avondale Baptist Church from childhood until its closing in 2000. It was there that she met the love of her life, George Allen Woodard. They were married for 57 years and built a life centered on faith and family.
Together they raised four devoted children: Dennis (Nancy) Woodard, Barry (Julie) Woodard, Diane (Jeff) Mason, and Brian (Danna) Woodard.
In addition to being a dedicated mother, Joyce worked as an executive secretary for U.S. Pipe for decades, retiring in 1994. She was known for her remarkable typing skills, and many marveled at the speed and precision with which her fingers moved across the keyboard.
Joyce treasured time spent with her family at the “Forest,” the “River,” and on Smith Lake. She found joy in simple pleasures such as reading, bird watching, and sewing. Her steady faith, gentle spirit, and love for her family shaped generations.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses; six grandchildren, Emily (Bart) Masters, Lauren (Mitchell) Osterday, Austin (Amber) Mason, Kyle (Danay) Woodard, Caleb Woodard, and Spencer Mason; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles (Betty) Turner; and many special nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Elzie and Inez Turner; her husband, George Allen Woodard; her sister, Iris Snyder; and her brothers, Robert, Joseph, and Wilson Turner.
The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Buddy McGohon, will follow at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held afterward at Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale, with a police-escorted funeral procession.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Joyce.
