Lawrence L. Mason

MASON, LAWRENCE LELAND, (Larry), age 83, of Birmingham Alabama passed away on November 17, 2018, close to his children and grandchildren in Virginia. He was born in Terra Haute, Indiana on March 5, 1935, the son of Warren and Louise Mason, served his country in the National Guard and lived most of his life as a devoted husband, loving father, and prominent businessman with JC Penney. After graduating from Tampa University in 1957, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Doreen Ross on Nov. 1, 1957. During their marriage, they were residents of Gainesville FL, Melbourne FL, Dallas TX, Atlanta GA, Tuscaloosa AL, Meridian MS, and Tampa FL, to name a few places, before retiring from JC Penney in Birmingham AL along with other managers and best friends. After retirement they traveled around the world together, with their many friends. Devoted member of Brookwood Baptist Church for over 20 years, he also served his community through the Masonic Lodge, Shriner's, and Habitat for Humanity, along with many other organizations. Predeceased by his parents and his wife, Doreen Ross Mason, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey Lawrence Mason, his daughter, Julie Mason Meade, son in law Harry Meade Jr., and grandsons, Harry Meade III and John Mason Meade, all of Danville VA. The family will receive friends at Ridout's Trussville Chapel between 5pm – 7pm on November 26th. Service will be graveside at Forest Crest Cemetery at 10am on November 27th. If anyone prefers, in lieu of flowers, friends may give a memorial donation to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
