
In 1939, he married his ninth grade sweetheart, Louise Miller.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. In 1958 he was appointed Postmaster for Pinson by President Eisenhower and retired in 1973.
Joining the United States Army in 1943, he served his country with the Dixie Division stationed in Manila, Philippines. He enjoyed all the military memorials and reminiscing with other World War II veterans when he flew to Washington, DC with the Honor Flight.
Marvin loved meeting and talking to people, never meeting a stranger, was known for his joke telling and quick wit. One of his greatest joys was sharing his early life in Pinson. He loved working with his hands whether building furniture, homes, stripping wire or clearing land, always finding something to do to keep busy.
A member of Pinson First Baptist Church, he served as a trustee and deacon for many years president of the Civitian Club, a member of the Centerpoint Fire Board and a proud member of the Echota Cherokee Tribe.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert S. McKee and Eula Green; brothers, Onas, Ervin, Earl and J.T; sisters, Thelma Eads and Eula Lee Morton. Survived by his wife of 77 years, Louise; children, Marvelyn Deese (James), Judy Sheumaker (Donald), Murk McKee and Donald McKee (Alison); 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Pinson, 4036 Spring Street on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Gary Fisher officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Marvins Chapel Cemetery in Pinson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Gregory Brumbeloe, Matthew McKee, Benjamin McKee, Donald Sheumaker III, Jonathan Sheumaker and great grandson , Bill Robertson V.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Fountain Fund c/o First Baptist Church of Pinson, 4036 Spring Street, Pinson, AL 35126.
