

Mary Frances Giovinco Barr, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, went peacefully to be with the Lord with her daughters by her side on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the age of 77.
While raising her young daughters, Mary achieved her Bachelors of Science and Master’s degrees from the University of Alabama Birmingham before a long and successful career as a clinical therapist helping victims of trauma and addiction. Mary was a strong role model to her girls through her strong work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles to achieve her goals. She spent her career helping others as an advocate for mental health and believed in helping those who were unable to help themselves. She also believed in the importance of serving her community and was known to have volunteered with the Suicide and Crisis Center hotline, the Red Cross, and the Cahaba River Society. In her later years, Mary had relocated to Georgia to spend more time as grandmother “Nonni” to her two grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Frank Anthony Giovinco and her mother Marie Miller Giovinco. Mary is survived by her sister Bena Ann Spina (Paul) of Hoover, AL, daughter Rose Marie Green (Eric) of Birmingham, AL, daughter Mary Ann Barr (Angela), grandson Miller and granddaughter Bena Marie Barr of Cumming, GA, and beloved many nieces and nephews.
The family appreciates and are deeply grateful for the kindness and care shown to Mary by all the staff at The Oaks at Shiloh Point Assisted Living and Memory Care and Agape Hospice Care in Cumming, GA.
Graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL @ 1:00 pm cst Sunday, September 21, 2025.
