Mary A Staton

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Darren Wesley Staton and Steven Earnest Staton; sisters, Jimmie Nell Pearce and Dotty Louise Mitchell (Herman).

Mary Ann is survived by her two brothers, Donald Ray Vandiver (Fran) and Doyle Lane Vandiver (Linda) of Smithville; sister, Judy Carole Kyles (Leonard) of Millington, TN; grandchildren, Alexander Staton of Atlanta, GA and Miranda Staton of Birmingham, AL; and several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong attendee of Pearce Chapel Church in MS, Tarrant Baptist Church in AL and most recent Calvary Baptist Church in MS. Mary Ann worked in the Birmingham/Tarrant area as a kindergarten teacher, store clerk and Tarrant credit union until she retired due to health issues and moved back to MS.

Mary Ann lived a full and blessed life before passing away peacefully in her sleep. She was born with a sharp wit and a keen memory. She was a great conversationalist, Mary Ann enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows and talking with anyone who was interested in a pleasant conversation. She was an avid Alabama Football fan. She enjoyed traveling to the AL coast with family. She was most proud of her grandchildren, Alex and Andie, who were the light of her life. Mary Ann enjoyed watching the Grand Ole Opry, but she truly loved Elvis Music. She actually saw Elvis in person. She also became a fan of Elvis Tribute Artists and attended festivals and competitions religiously. She was especially fond of David Lee, a Tarrant native. She had known David Lee and his family since he was a child. Even in poor health, she would try to attend any performances of David Lee, as well as performances of David’s wife Tara.

Mary Ann loved being around small children and had a special bond with nephew David Mitchell, who fondly called her “Annie”.

We all have our special memories of Mary Ann, let them fill your mind, warm your heart, and lead you through this difficult time. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.

A celebration of life for Mary will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
