Mary Posey Thomas

Mary Posey Thomas, age 93, of Birmingham, AL went to be with her Lord on October 2, 2018. She was born in Grandfield, OK to Thomas Gayle and Idella Posey on May 30, 1925. Mary is survived by her son Dan Thomas (Lindy); grandchildren Shane Ellis (Amy), David Thomas, Laura Butler (Andy), Carrie Hannis, Frank Ellis (Amber), Justin Thomas, Tracy Voigt (Justin), Emily Thomas, and Caitlyn Thomas; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband of over 50 years, Frank S. Thomas Sr.; her children Frank S. Thomas Jr., Steven Thomas, and Kathy Ellis; her brother Bill Posey; and her granddaughter Amy Thomas.

Mary was a teacher in the Birmingham City School System for over 30 years in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. She was a long time member of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church in Birmingham. After retirement, Mary served as a volunteer for numerous organizations including Prison Fellowship International, Children's Hospital of Alabama, and after school bible studies. She loved Jesus above all and served others in His name.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 3 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Funeral Service will follow Thursday, October 4 at 10:00 am Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Prison Fellowship International or the Children's Hospital of Alabama in memory of Mary Thomas.
