Mary Alicia Wall, 101, passed peacefully into her eternal home on June 5, 2025. Born in the Schauer family home on February 18, 1924, Alicia was the second of nine children born to John and Mary Schauer of West End. Alicia attended high school at Blessed Sacrament Academy, where she graduated as the valedictorian of her class. Shortly thereafter, she married her forever love, Thomas W. Wall. They were married only a short time, when WWll broke out and Tom was shipped overseas for 3 years. A hard time for such a young couple. To support the war effort and to fill her time, Alicia worked as a secretary to several architects at Continental Gin, and took classes at Howard College in architecture. After the war, Tom and Alicia settled in the East Lake/Roebuck area where they became parishioners of St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Immediately, they, and all the other parishioners, were immersed in the building of their new church and rectory. Completed, and years later, Alicia taught Sunday school to the young children of the church, including some of her own grand-children. She sang in the choir, was a member of the Ladies Altar Sodality, worked in the church- sponsored community food pantry, and many other areas where she could be of service. Not one to have idle hands, throughout this time, Alicia crocheted numerous beautiful afghans that were raffled off for a substantial donation to many of the church fundraisers. In support of the world-wide missions, Alicia made hundreds of rosaries by hand, that were sent to the missionary priests, to be given to those searching for The Way, The Truth, and The Life. These also were the years that she raised a family of 7, sewing and making many of their clothes, while also working weekdays in the Schauer family printing company, Birmingham Letterhead. As if raising 7 children wasn’t hard enough, this “Wrecking Crew”, as she lovingly called them, was the main reason she was on a first name basis with the ER staff at East End Memorial Hospital. In addition to her husband Thomas Walter Wall, she was predeceased by her first-born son, Walter Gregory Wall, her son in law, Michael Wayne Hall, her daughter in law, Kristi Melinda Wall, great granddaughter, Marianne Alicia Berzas, and great grandson, Rowan Thomas Moore. Alicia is survived by 3 of her siblings, sisters: Joanne Mazurette (Lou+), Nita Keenum (Albert+), and Jane Reedy (James+). Her children: Mike Wall (Mary), Tim Wall (Linda), Kathleen Hall (Michael+), Cecilia Hall (Larry), Bob Wall (Teri), and Danny Wall (Denise). Lastly, being difficult to put a number on them, Alicia was also blessed to be survived by many grand-children, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The family of Alicia would like to express their undying gratitude to Jennie Kilbourne, who lovingly took care of their mother around the clock for 9 years. A monumental task that she took on and carried out with the love of a daughter. It was obvious to any observer, that Alicia grew to love Jennie in the same way.
