Merlene Bailey Bohannon

On October 18, 2025, Merlene Bailey Bohannon, age 82, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior after a life of love, service and faith. Born on November 26, 1942 in Walker County, Al., she lived out her calling as a registered nurse caring for cancer patients with compassion, dignity, and unwavering kindness. Her gentle touch and healing spirit brought comfort to countless lives.

Her faith in Christ guided everything she did. A dedicated member of Pelham First Baptist, she served faithfully on the church medical team and gave her time to care for fellow members in need. She served in many roles in the church, serving others and spreading the love of Christ. She lived her faith not only in words but in actions – offering prayer, encouragement, and help to anyone who needed it.

She cherished her family. To her children and grandchildren, she was simply mama and mawmaw. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Jim Bohannon, her brother Garland Bailey (Glenda), and her parents Charles and Hazel Bailey. She is survived by her children, Michael Bohannon (Darlene) of Trafford, AL; Darlene Bohannon of Vestavia Hills, AL and Alanna Shiflett of Santee, SC. And her beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Cheryl) Bohannon, Nicole (Mike) Smith, Brittney Milstead, Cameron Shiflett, Jude Shiflett and Chris (Arantza) Shiflett. Along with 3 great grandchildren, Jeweliana, Haylee and Peyton. Her sisters Shirley (Fred) Hanvey, GayNell (Jim) Parker and Janice Colley. Her faithful and loving companion, Gracie. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
