

Murray Ross Thomason, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at his home on September 12, 2025 at the age of 88. Born on October 3, 1936, in Clanton, Alabama, Murray lived a life filled with love, laughter and an unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Murray was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Loy Thomason, his mother, Bernice Martin, and his beloved wife, Frances, who stood by his side for 63 wonderful years of marriage. He had two daughters, Tracy and Jodie, and four grandchildren and was a great dad and grandad to them. He loved his family very much.
An alumnus of Auburn University, Murray carried his educational achievement with pride and instilled the values of hard work and determination in his family. His professional journey as a computer programmer led him to a fulfilling career at Motion Industries where he was known for his diligence and commitment.
Murray loved the Lord and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and its Tapestry Kingdom Community, where he fostered many meaningful relationships with others. He loved being a part of the church community, and when he was no longer able to attend due to Parkinson's disease, he enjoyed many visits from his pastors and friends. Murray was a man of many interests; his love for bowling brought him joy and camaraderie where he and Frances met some of their best friends. Murray also passionately supported Auburn Football, showcasing his school spirit and love for the game. His daughters lovingly remember being woken up on Iron Bowl Saturdays by their dad playing the Auburn fight song and a recording of the final play in the famous 1972 (17-16) game.
Murray was not only loving and generous but was also known for his sweet, funny nature, which endeared him to all who knew him. His sense of humor and contagious smile could brighten the darkest days, and his warmth made every gathering a joyful occasion.
Murray leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and laughter. He is survived by his daughters; Tracy McKinney (Brent) and Jodie Walsh (Stephen) and his adoring grandchildren: Kelsey McKinney (Trey) and Shelby McKinney, Peyton Walsh and Katelyn Walsh. Each of them holds cherished memories of Murray’s unconditional love and support.
For many years Murray received exceptional care from Affinity Hospice, and the family extends a heartfelt thank you for their compassion and dedication. Additionally, Mending Hearts LLC provided amazing sitters who became part of the Thomason family, ensuring that Murray received love and attention every day.
Murray will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his legacy of love, humor and kindness will forever be remembered.
A visitation will be held in the Fireside room at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4601 Valleydale Road, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
