

On September 11, 2015, Nellie B. Gibb passed away peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living Facility in Springfield, Virginia. Nellie was born in Pratt City, Alabama on 27 November 1917 to Henry and Nannie Blackwell. She was the youngest of their 5 children. She graduated from Ensley High School and afterward pursued skill-training as a legal secretary in a local business college. Nellie was the wife of the late David B. Gibb and loving mother to her twin sons Henry and Harry. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Nannie, her husband David, her son Henry and daughter-in-law Mary Beth, her grandson Jeff, her great-grandson Christian, her sister Nora, her brother Avery, and 3 other siblings. She is survived by her son Harry, Colonel, US Army retired, daughter-in-law Carol and grandchildren Brianna, Emily, and John. Nellie worked for the City of Birmingham for 50 years, most of that time as the Secretary to the City Attorney. After retirement at age 70, she volunteered at Lloyd Nolan Hospital until it closed. She also loved her Auburn Tigers! Nellie holds the distinction of being a direct decendent on her mother's side of Captain Thomas Graves, one of the original founders of Jamestown, Virginia. Nellie was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure to know her and will be remembered as a kind, generous woman who had a keen sense of humor and a fiery spirit. Friends and family are invited to join her immediate family for a viewing and service followed by a reception at Johns-Ridout Chapel—Elmwood Cemetery, 800 Dennison Avenue SW, Birmingham at 11:00 AM, September 18, 2015.
