

Norma G. Dean, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Goodwin and Annie Gallimore, husband Bill Dean, and sister Judith Lee. Survivors include daughters Wendy Dean Petruzzi (Peter) of Knoxville, TN, and Betsy Dean McGriff (Scott) of Vestavia. She also leaves behind two grandsons, Ethan and Owen McGriff.
Throughout Norma’s journey with dementia, she was blessed with compassionate sitters and caregivers, the caring staff at Aspire Cahaba, and the devoted team at Southeast Hospice. Norma has also been surrounded with love from her best friend, Jane Gibbs, the “Ramsay Girls”, and her extended church family at Saint Mark UMC. Norma was born in Birmingham, AL in 1941, and graduated from Ramsay High School. She received a Bachelor of Music from Birmingham Southern College, and a Master of Music from the University of Texas. She then went on to fulfill her musical passion by becoming a private piano teacher, pianist at Saint Mark UMC, and a concert pianist. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Saint Mark UMC in Vestavia Hills from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the celebration of life service to begin at 11:00 AM. Following the service at Saint Mark, interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 2901 Columbiana Road, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.
