Patsy Bayliss passed from this life to her heavenly home on May 6, 2022. She is survived by her beloved son, James Michael Fortson, her dear pets, Foxy and Gracie along with a host of friends. Patsy was a member of Gardendale Presbyterian church.
Born Patsy Ruth Hall on August 5, 1938, she was a graduate of West End High School and studied at UAB. Patsy was an executive secretary to the dean of the school of nursing (back when executive assistances were called secretaries). She always enjoyed and looked forward to her annual high school reunion. Although she was never a cheerleader, she was in charge of bringing the mannequin dressed in a West End High School Cheerleader uniform. Patsy was voted “Miss Personality Plus” by her peers and if you ever met her, you understand why!
Patsy enjoyed traveling and NEVER met a stranger. Any trip, while others would be resting, she would be socializing. She would introduce herself to every single person she met along the way. Even in Paris (where she didn’t speak French), all the street vendors and acquaintances would yell “Bonjour Patsy” – stunning.
She found love and happiness late in life with Richard Porter. Although no one ever thought she would get on the Harley because the helmet would mess up her hair, she proved us all wrong! They had many great adventures and made many great memories together.
An avid supporter of The Mystic Krewe of Apollo Birmingham – she did not miss a Bal Masque after her first invite from Mr. Jonathan Harrison. She will forever be remembered fondly for her love and support as the Queen Mum XXX.
Patsy was the definition of “unconditional love”. To say she will be missed by all is an understatement. She lived life to its fullest and loved abundantly along the way. Keep doing what you do dear Patsy, we know you are here with us and will continue to watch over us.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years; James E. Bayliss, her parents; James Homer Hall and Icy Pauline Beckworth and her sister Joyce Hall Shirley.
