Pauline Davis Gregory, lovingly known to all as “Granny,” passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 91. Born on March 14, 1934, to Marvin and Ada Davis, Pauline grew up in Ensley, where she graduated from Ensley High School and began building the rich, love-filled life that defined her.
Pauline was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Kenneth “Blackie” Gregory; her parents; her siblings, Richard “Sonny” Davis, Christine “Crick” Bennet, and Walter “Buddy” Davis; and her best friend, Sue Pinkston.
She leaves behind a family that adored her: her children, Vicky (Tom) Fuqua and Kenny (Linda) Gregory; her grandchildren, T.J. (Jenny) Fuqua, Alyson Fuqua (Michael) Tucker, Matt (Sarah) Gregory, and Katie Gregory (Dustin) Haynes; and her great-grandchildren, Trey Fuqua, Parker Fuqua, Jack Fuqua, Will Tucker, Davis Tucker, Tori Tucker, Liv Gregory, Isla Gregory, Jackson Gregory, June Haynes, Ella Haynes, and Walt Haynes.
Pauline married the love of her life, Blackie, and together they shared many beautiful years until his passing in 2012. She worked for many years as a sales associate at JCPenney, where her kindness, warm smile, and genuine interest in people made her beloved by coworkers and customers alike.
A woman of simple joys and deep love, Pauline filled her days with books, the companionship of her loyal dogs, and the thrill of “junkin’” in thrift stores—always able to spot a treasure or a bargain. She cherished her yearly girls’ beach trips with her daughter, as well as the family vacations that brought generations together. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and tradition, and she was especially known for her unforgettable cornbread dressing and her gift for cooking any kind of dried bean to perfection.
Granny’s love was steady, her presence comforting, and her laughter unforgettable. She created a legacy woven through her family—one of resilience, devotion, and the beauty of small, cherished moments.
A visitation will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a committal service at 11:00 a.m.
Pauline will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever bless the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
