

Peggie Lee Nixon Flanagan, age 65 of Pinson, AL passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at her home. Peggie was born on May 21, 1948 in Detroit, MI. In 1966 she married her high school sweetheart. After raising her young daughter, Peggie went to college to earn her degree in teaching. She spent 25 years teaching honors English at Rudd Middle School before retiring to care for her ill husband. Her greatest joy was sharing her love of Tolkien, Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Harper Lee with her students. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael M. Flanagan; parents, Ken and Ethel Curtis Nixon; mother and father-in-law, Paul H. and Lora Flanagan. Peggie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Rudd, and her son-in-law, Ellis Rudd; two grandchildren, Trace and Celia Rudd of Trussville, AL; step-mother, Joy Nixon; sister, Janet (Mike) Sibley; niece, Erin (Ross) Harmes; great-niece, Zadie Harmes; nephew, Paul (Abby) Sibley; sister-in-laws, Pat Holloway, Fran (Mike) Gray; brother-in-law, James (Shirley) Flanagan; numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends included Buddy and Suzanne Richards, Joan Hagood Quick, Mrs. Tom Moody, Steve Baker and Shirley Baker. Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2014 from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. A private family entombment will be held at Cullman Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pinson United Methodist Church, 4507 Bud Holmes Road, Pinson, AL 35126 or to the United Methodist’s Children’s Home, 3140 Zelda Court, Montgomery, AL 36106.
