

Peter N. "Pete" Mangione, 90, passed away on February 18, 2025, in Bessemer, Alabama. Born on November 19, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama, Pete lived a full and dedicated life centered around faith, family, and hard work.
Pete was a man of great determination and entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated his own grocery store for 32 years, serving his community with dedication. Later in life, he worked as a life insurance agent for Life of Georgia for many years before finding joy in running a bread route after retirement. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident throughout his career.
A devoted Catholic, Pete was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church before attending St. Aloysius Catholic Church in his later years. His faith was an integral part of his life and guided him in all that he did.
Beyond his professional and religious commitments, Pete found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished time spent with his family and had a deep love for them. He also enjoyed napping and watching classic cowboy shows on television, particularly Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
Pete is survived by his sister Josephine Cahill (Robert), daughter Maria Stokes, son Tony Mangione (Betty), seven grandchildren, and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cleo Mangione; siblings Virginia Renta, Stella Mareno, and Joe Mangione; as well as two children, Joan Morris and Steve Trest.
A Funeral Mass will be held on February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Johns-Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, located at 800 Dennison Ave., Birmingham, Alabama, 35211.
Pete was loved by family, friends, and all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the conversations he shared will be cherished forever.
