Phillip grew up in west Homewood, Alabama where, in his youth, spoke of happy "triple header" summer days with his friends-swimming in the morning, par 3 golf at "Jellies" in the afternoon and evening ping-pong in the neighbors back yard. He was a gentle soul whose faith sustained him through difficult times and was generous to those in need.
He graduated from Homewood High School and the University Of Montevallo- Bachelor of Business Administration.
Phillip worked as the Office Manager in his brother's engineering business, IPS, for many years. He also was employed at the VA Hospital, Mitchell's Place, and the Piggly-Wiggly Grocery in Bluff Park.
He did extensive volunteer work at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.
He is survived by his brother, Don Waite Coker of Vestavia and his sister Linda ("Terry") Goodwin of Dallas, Texas.
