Rickey Arthur Gibb (80), died peacefully at home, Tuesday, April 4, 2023 with his family and caregivers. He was born Sept 7, 1942 to Erskine G. Gibb and Grace Lucia Gibb in Birmingham, AL. Rickey was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Gibb; grandson, Sidney Joseph Lightsey; granddaughter, Hannah Lynn; and wife, Carol Gibb.
He graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1960 and Auburn University in 1964. His long career in the insurance industry is highlighted by his position as president of Beacon Insurance Group, a company he formed in 1977 and closed in 2021. Rickey was a very active member of United States Handball Association and an avid walker for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Judith Sanders Gibb; children, Tully Gibb Lightsey (Brent) of Vincent, AL; Maggie Gibb Reaville (Karen) of Denver, CO; Tonya Guy Dorris (Craig) of Chelsea, AL; Emily Elliott, Leeds, AL; Melissa Crowley, Tempe,AZ; Julie Anna Fry, Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Gracie Lightsey, Michael Lightsey, Isabel Reaville, Susanna Reaville, Jacob Dorris, Anna Ruth Dorris, John Samuel Dorris, Knox Lynn, Truitt Crowley, Cameron Crowley, Lila Jane Elliott, and Dallas Jernigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Rickey’s memory to: Dementia Society of America, 188 North Main Street, Doylestow, PA 18901.
The family wishes to give special thanks to his wonderful caregivers, Shirley Williams, Sonya Haddock, Adrienne Stinson, and Jackie Amos.
A graveside memorial service will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 2pm at Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery in block 44.
