Robert Leslie (Bob) Lide passed peacefully from this life to the next on Saturday, February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. It is only fitting that a man so committed to loving God and loving others well would enter glory on a day set aside to recognize love.
Mr. Lide was a little over a week shy of being 99 years young. He was born on February 26, 1927, to Walter Savage Lide and Elizabeth Vaughan Lide in Birmingham, Alabama. He worked a majority of his career for the Alabama Department of Internal Revenue. Mr. Lide was also a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army and achieving the rank of corporal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Ray, brothers Walter Lide, Jr. and George Lide, his beloved wife of 38 years, Bessie Love Lide, and his grandson, Will Bright.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Lena Lide, his children Janeene Snuggs (Don), Mark Lide (Renee), Susan Lloyd (Barry) of Knoxville, TN, Lisa Bright (Bill), Susan Anauo (Brian) of Hickory, NC, and Becky DeArman, his grandchildren Chris Snuggs (Kim), Ashley Bright, Ryan Snuggs (Taylor), Stephanie Lezatte (Eric) of Knoxville, TN, Amy Millington (J.R.), Robin Riehl (Nathan) of Chicago, IL, Nick Kelley (Jan) of Juneau, AK, David Lide (Gurleen) of Chicago, IL, Christopher Anauo (Alyssa) of Omaha, NE, Daniel Anauo of Asheville, NC, Victoria Childers (Daniel), Madison Dillashaw, Nicholas Dillashaw, Carson Dillashaw, Harrison Dillashaw, and Sophia Dillashaw, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lide was a vibrant Christian whose love for the Lord and for others was evident in his daily life. For 25 years he was a deacon and an elder at East Lake Alliance Church, and for the past 35
years he has been an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Trussville. He supported the cause of the Gospel by praying and giving generously to missions. He was quick-witted and kind. He loved garage sales, making a good deal when trading cars, watching Alabama football, walking (both outdoors and on his treadmill), and spending time with his family. He could often
be found reading his Bible, playing outside with his grands and great-grands and attending their events, eating his favorite foods – especially desserts – and singing and holding hands with his
beloved wife, Lena.
A memorial service for Mr. Lide will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL, 35235, with the family
receiving friends at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jamie Walley of Ridgecrest Baptist Church will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Garden of Restoration, 1591 Gadsden
Highway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Will Bright Foundation, 204 Main Street Suite 101, Trussville, AL 35173. (https://willbrightfoundation.com/donate/).
