

Robert Basley Peake Jr., age 83, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on Saturday February 15, 2020. RoRobert (Bob) Basley Peake, Jr., passed away at age 83 on February 15, 2020. Bob will be remembered for his love of family, business ethics, sense of humor, and easy going manner. He will be missed.
A 1955 graduate of Shades Valley High School, Bob attended Auburn University and also served in the Alabama National Guard. He was born and raised in Dora, Alabama, and moved with his mother to Birmingham in 1948.
Bob was a successful food broker and business owner. He was Vice President of Sales for Mrs. Stratton's Salads before founding his own firm, Peake and Associates, with sons Ben and Austin. Before joining Mrs. Stratton's, Bob worked for Thomas Bradford, Sr., as a salesman for Bradford Food Brokers in Birmingham and then as manager of their Montgomery office. Bob thrived and worked until 2015, before succumbing to the effects of Alzheimer’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Alabama football, and golfing with friends and business associates, but his true passions were his family and dealing with his customers in the food industry. Bob was always true to his word and conducted business with integrity.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Carraway Peake; mother and stepfather, Martha Brasfield Cobb and Lelton B. Cobb; and Thomas “Buddy” Woods who always loved Bob like as a son. Bob is survived by his children, Ben Peake (Amy), Nancy Peake Portera (Mike), and Thomas Austin Peake, Sr. (Traci); grandchildren Leanne Portera, Lauren Portera, Kelsey Peake, Emily Trucks, and Thomas Austin Peake, Jr.; sister Jane Cobb Pickering (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22, from 11am to 1pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. A family graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family expresses sincere thanks to Bob's caregivers, LaArchsa Covington and Tiffany Winston, and to the nurses and staff at Oasis Hospice, for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alabama Alzheimer’s of Birmingham.

A reception for Robert will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211. A cremation will occur.
