

July 11, 1944-Sept. 27, 2014 Margaret West passed away peacefully on Sat., Sept. 27, surrounded by family members and a church family who loved her very much. She was born in Birmingham to Mary Ruth Cartwright and Henry Wade West. Margaret graduated from Banks High in 1964, and retired from the Jefferson County Court System. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Centerpoint Chapter with dual membership in the Bpyes Chapter, Tarrant. She held several positions including Past Matron and Past Matron of the Order of Amaranth. And, she was the best at selling raffle tickets! Margaret was a volunteer with the Auxiliary at St. Vincent's East where she worked in the flower shop. She was a life time member of East Lake United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Alma Boggan SS Class, the Randolph SS Class, worked in the Children's SS Department, participated in UMW and served on several committees. Margaret documented every event by taking pictures, and would travel at the drop of a hat, loved working with ceramics, and has been making baby blankets for years for her friends that were expecting a baby or grandbaby. Margaret leaves behind several cousins, loving friends, and her unique and talented cat, Polly, who will be well cared for. There will be a Celebration of Margaret's Life and an Eastern Star Service at East Lake United Methodist Church, 7753, 1st Ave. S. Birmingham, AL 35206 on Wed., Oct. 1; Visitation: 1:00 and Service: 2:00; with a procession to Forest Hill Cemetery where Margaret will be buried next to her parents.
