

Finocchio, Sam A., age 85, passed away August 31, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanie C. Finocchio, parents, Providenza and Paul Finocchio, Sr, brothers, Paul Finocchio Jr, Joe Finocchio, and sisters, Madeline Finocchio and Rose F. Wegent.
Sam was a veteran of the Korean War. A member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of Italy.
Following his father's death, Sam continued to run the New Fifth Avenue Market for an additional 45 years until January 2007 when he was severely injured during a robbery at the store. Sam's strength, faith and courage were observed by all that witnessed his recovery from his injuries. He was a very kind and compassionate man who never met a stranger. Once you met Sam, he became your friend for life. He was loved for his quick wit, jokes and storytelling.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. He will certainly be missed by all.
The family would like to thank all that cared for Sam following his injury, especially Kennetta and Oliver Jones, Diann Brown and everyone from KJ's Elderly Care. Their love and care for him was genuine and very much appreciated.
The family will receive friends from 11am - Noon on Friday September 6,
2013 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Hoover, AL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Noon; burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel directing. Father John Fallon officiating.
