Sarah H Gibbs

Sarah Gibbs, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on January 26, 1929, in Alabama, Sarah lived a long and fulfilling life marked by her deep faith, love for her family, and passion for nature.

A proud graduate of Ensley High School, Sarah was an active student who participated in basketball and softball throughout her school years and even served as the high school mascot. Her vibrant spirit and dedication to her community were evident from an early age.

Sarah was a devoted wife to her late husband, Alvin Gibbs, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing in 2004. Together they built a loving family that became the center of Sarah’s world. She is survived by her two sons, Danny Gibbs (Renae) and Michael Gibbs (Rhonda), three grandchildren—Justin, Brittney (Damien), and Hannah Grace—and three great-grandchildren: Audrey, Carden, and Cadence. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Sarah Holdsambeck; and her brothers Hubert (Mary) Holdsambeck and Wendall (Betty) Holdsambeck.

Faith played a central role in Sarah’s life. A faithful member of Central Park Methodist Church, she dedicated herself to teaching Sunday school for many years. Her spiritual devotion was reflected not only in her church activities but also in the way she lived her life—with kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her.

Sarah had a profound appreciation for nature. She was an avid gardener who found joy in tending to flowers and beautifying spaces through her involvement with the garden club. One of her favorite activities with the club was placing flowers around the local fire station—a testament to her commitment to community service. She also loved animals deeply, especially dogs, often serving as the family’s trusted dog sitter. A passionate bird watcher, Sarah spent countless hours marveling at the beauty of God’s creations.

Her legacy as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Sarah’s warmth extended beyond her family; she touched many lives through her faith-filled actions and gentle spirit.
