The third child born to the union of the late Solomon Brent and Mollie Roper Brent on December 12, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama. Rev. Selma Brent early formal education was obtained from the Birmingham City School. His desired to be an effective vessel meant for the master’s use he continual his education. He accomplished his goals by receiving two degrees; Bachelor of Religion Education from Easonian Baptist College, Doctor of Divinity from Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College (May 28, 1992). Rev. Selma Brent was a Moderator of the New Bethel District Association.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Frances Brent from July 8, 1949 to February 18, 1997. To this union five children was born. He was employed with Kraft Food Company as a truck driver for over 45 years.
Selma Brent confessed Christ under the Pastoral-ship of the late Rev. R. H. Patterson. As a member of the Peace Baptist Church, Center Street he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and he answered the called of God to preach the gospel. Later Rev. Selma Brent moved his membership to the Mt Calvary Baptist Church.
Rev. Selma Brent accepted the call of God to pastor the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Montevallo Park faithfully for forty five years. His life testify to the power love and many have come to love him as a father both ministers and layman alike.
May 11, 2002 Pastor Rev. Selma Brent and Brenda Bimbo Evans united in holy matrimony. Their love and devotion for each other demonstrated the sincereness of their marriage vows faithfully : to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health until death do you part.
At his demise Rev. Selma Brent was paster-emeritus and a member of First Baptist Church of Montevallo Park. Surviving memories cherishers: a loving and faithful wife, Brenda Brent: four sons; Tony (Belinda) Birmingham, Selma Darnell (Lisa) Wilmington NC, Larry (Charlotte NC,) Terrence Evans (Birmingham, Al) and four daughters: Linda B Sparks (Terence) Birmingham, Janice B Washington, Birmingham, Tonya Moorer (Darryl), Chandler, Az, Tamalyn Evans, Birmingham and 15 Grandchildren, and 22 Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandchild and One brother; Lewis Edward Brent; one sister-law Patricia Scarbrough (Norris); three brother-laws Rodney Croom, Ronald Croom, Reginald Croom (Laverne); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousin.; associated ministers and spiritual sons Rev. Q. E. Hammonds, (Mary) and Rev Joseph Dawson (Danyel) and the members of the First Baptist Church of Montevallo Park.
