Thomas Franklin Jennings

He grew up in Pratt City and graduated from Ensley High School and went on to become an All-SEC Track athlete and graduate from the University of Alabama. After college, he became a high school teacher of Mathematics and later began as a Trach Coach at Gardendale High School for 37 years. He retired from teaching in the late 90's, but continued as Assistant Track Coach at Vestavia Hills High School until 2021 finishing up his legendary Track career. Tom's love for Track and Field and the student athletes that he gratefully worked with was a passion that he would speak of throughout his last days.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 20 years; Barbara Jennings, daughter; Rebecca Cupps (Brandon), grandchildren; Logan Cupps and Reagan Cupps, son; Thomas Jennings, step-daughter; Molly Custred (David),grandchildren; Meredith Custred, Shelby Park (Colton),great grandchildren; Isaac Park and Eden Park, step-daughter; Melissa Loats (Jimmie), grandchildren; Jimmie Loats III, Jackson Loats, and countless friends that were like family.

A graveside service for Tom will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211. Family and friends are asked to meet in the front parking lot of Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, Alabama 35211 by 10:45am and we will all process together to the gravesite.
