THOMAS, VELMA RUTH, age 94 of Leeds, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother joined her Heavenly Father Thursday, July 7, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was preceded in death her loving husband, Carmen Anthony Thomas; parents, Henry H. and Massey Naomi Byrd; 3 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her sister, Betty Byrd; son, Jerry Glenn Thomas (Ellen) of Slidell, LA; daughter, Linda Bourne (Dan); grandchildren, Jason Thomas and Jennifer Cowsar of Slidell, LA and great-grandson Zackary Cowsar. Special thanks to loving caregiver and friend, Faye Lawley, Lakeside Hospice of Pell City and many loving friends and family. Ruth was a devout Christian and a former member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church. There will be a graveside service on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens beginning at 2 PM.
