I was in Irondale youth choir that rick and vira led.  It was such a special time. I regret missing  when vira passed away.  Bless you Tami.    Milton sills

Ms. Vira and Rick Maze were extremely kind my wife Lydia and myself when we came to America in 1996. They invited us to the all-American tradition of watching Super Bowl at their home. We still cherish such early days as we were fresh off the boat and did not know much about Americans and/or traditions.  It was here that I learned the basics of American Football.  

The Mazes were also generous, and in those early years, we did not have much, and I could barely afford to buy a bass guitar and not the Amp.  Rick and Vira bought and donated the bass amplifier to Brookview Weslyan for me to use it for the next decade.  

In life Ms. Vira was displayed enduring kindness, and in death has left us with a legacy of a practicing Christian whose smile and warm heartedness will be dearly missed.  I am sure she is rejoicing at her Saviors feet today and joined together with the love of her life Rick Maze, and countless others in singing eternal praises.  Lydia joins me in offering our heartfelt condolences.  Our prayers are for the Almighty to comfort Tami and Rebecca and their extended families during this difficult time.

My Sweet Aunt Vira was sooooo special.  I know she is singing and playing the piano in the Heavenly Choir and I am soooo happy for her, but soooo sad for us because she is leaving such a big hole in our hearts here. She will be forever missed.   Love always & Forever Bobby and Cindy McGinnis

My cousin Vira was born December of 1936 and my mother, Vira’s aunt, got married in January of 1937.  My mother loved Vira so much she thought she wouldn’t have children of her own because she would not be able to love another child like she loved Vira. Needless to say after 6 years of marriage my mom did have three children. She loved us greatly but always had a special love for Vira. Also when Vira was in high school and her mom and dad worked Vira came to our house every day after school. I remember my brother , me and Vira would put together puzzles at the dining room table, BIG PUZZLES.
Vira also taught me piano for a couple of years.
All I can say is she was special in so many ways to so many people. She was beautiful, talented, always so loving and caring, she had the man of her dreams, Rick and most importantly she loved the LORD of her life. I love you Vira Jean. In

God knew I needed these people in my life! 

What a joy and privilege to have known Vira in the Irondale Baptist Youth Choir.  What a difference she made in my life.  

It was always a ray of Sunshine when your Mother came to see me. We had so many deep conversation.   I will miss her! Rest assured that we know she is with our Lord.



“The Queen” was my replacement Mom when my mom passed. I dubbed her Queen and she never let me and Tami forget that. It was fitting, though. She was elegant and proper and beautiful in every single way.  

She was “Mom” to both me and my husband, Michael, and she loved us both unconditionally like a mom does. We are forever thankful to have known the kindest, sweetest, most caring lady on the planet. You are always in our hearts, “Queen Mom”.

There are soo many memories and such great times . Guess one of many was getting to turn music pages as she played at church on Sunday mornings.  Then spending time at her house with youth gatherings. But above all was always seeing her smiling face . Her and Rick set such a great example me as a youth and adult . Love you  Tammy

Vira was such a sweet spirited person and the only one I would say was a kindred spirit with Mother. I have to say that she was a model of Christian love to all of us, even when we, especially me, were not deserving of it. She was the type of person, like Mother, if you couldn't get along with her, I would say that there was something wrong with YOU. There is now a gap here on Earth that only she could fill, but I can't say that there's a gap in my heart because I know she's in the arms of Jesus, reunited with Rick, and I'll see her when I get there....whenever that might be. She had far more of an impact on many people than she ever knew here, but now that she has her reward, she knows. Vira, you are missed and there will never be another like you. I love you dearly and thank you for your love and example. Jay

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. We were blessed to have Rick and Vira as influences in our lives. Their love for us reflected their faith. We have many fun memories of time spent with them on Youth Choir Tours, Youth Beach Trips, recording albums at Prestige Studio, Outdoor Music performances, traveling with We Three and New Day Singers, riding around in the dune buggy and just hanging out. They provided the music for our wedding too. Vira would help us pick out a different alto part to sing in a performance that wasn't written but play how it was written in practice so Rick would not know. She could make a piano just about dance when she played it. Our lives were influenced by their love for each other, for Tami and a group of young people through music. We're honored to be a part of the  "Filthy Fourty".

Vira was a soul friend, and we shared a special bond.  She was one who always gave encouragement and wisdom to me.  She listened to me, and I listened to her, sharing our walk of faith, our struggles, and our happiness and joy in Christ!  She was full of grace, kindness, and love.  


Oh so many..the many times I have spent in their living room around  that piano  as she played so beautifully...the sweetness she always showed Joy (my daughter) usually being the only little one in the group of adults. Loved her so much. Such a Lady!

She always had a smile on her face and she was so pleasant to talk to.  I was blessed to know her and her family.
