She was known by many names....Vira, Jeannie, June Bug, Momma, Mimi, Meemers, Rick's wife, Tami's Mom, Bekah's Mimi.....and later in life, "The Queen".
Vira worked for many years at Prestige Productions Recording Studio in Homewood, AL.
She was an amazing pianist and used her gift in service to the Lord and others, along with her husband, through their music ministry at First Baptist Church of Irondale, and later at Carson Road Baptist and Brookview Wesleyan Church.
She was a kind, kind soul. She always had a welcoming heart and was always ready for a hug, to play the piano, or just have a heartfelt chat.
Vira married the love of her life Rick, at the age of 18. They were married for 60 amazing years and built a legacy of choosing to love each other daily.
Together they had a daughter, Tami, and a granddaughter, Rebekah. Though they only had one daughter and one granddaughter, they were like parents, grandparents, and mentors to hundreds of youth and adults over the years.
Vira is rejoining her husband Rick, her mother and father, George and Lydell Bates, and countless others that preceded her into the everlasting.
Most importantly, Vira has now joined her Lord Jesus; seen him face to face, and felt His love in the deepest part of her being.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or Brookview Wesleyan Church.
A memorial service for Vira will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:30 AM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 2001 Cedar Grove Rd, Leeds, AL 35094.
