W. Katherine (Sally) Buckner, 94, died on Saturday, December 18, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia. Predeceased by her loving husband of 74 years, Billy Vess Buckner, Sally is survived by her 4 daughters, Suzy McMahan (Edwin), Melanie Mullen, Jenny Buckner, and Penelope Markovich (Christian); 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Besides being a great wife and wonderful mother, Sally served as a Red Cross Gray Lady to veterans in the cancer ward at the Atlanta VA hospital and between 1970-1980's, was lead volunteer in the Red Cross community blood services and other support organizations in Darien, CT. After her children were grown, Sally became an avid golfer and during retirement in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, she was a member of the hole-in-one club, Beaches Ladies Golf chairperson, and Plantation Country Club Ladies chairperson. The family will receive friends on January 3, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. 35211 with a celebration of life service following at 10 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery.
