October 15, 1949- December 20, 2025
William “Bill” Baker, Jr. of Alabaster, AL was called home to Heaven December 20, 2025. We take comfort that his wife Cecile, who preceded him in Eternal Life earlier this year, was there to welcome him to the loving arms of His Savior. Bill is survived by his sisters Jan (Pat) Roberson, Susan (Terry) Pickett, sons Josh (Allie) Baker and John William (Haley) Baker. He also leaves behind his precious Grandchildren, Hattie and Emmett (of Josh and Allie) who brought him immeasurable joy and comfort, and extended family that will miss his presence greatly.
Bill grew up in Ensley, then Hoover, and was the firstborn of the late Bill, Sr. and Frances Baker. He attended Berry High School and studied nursing at UAB. He retired from working as an RN as the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Consultation Liaison for Spain Rehab Center at UAB, but soon decided to continue on part time because he enjoyed the work.
Bill’s life was one marked with integrity. He was a man of steady character who kept his word and remained deeply rooted in his faith. Bill was a loyal friend, and was often noted as the first person many of us called for advice or a listening ear. He had the true gift of being present with whoever he was with, and genuinely delighted in asking about and knowing what was happening in each of our lives. Bill loved being in God’s creation whether it was visiting a national park, spending a week at Lake Guntersville with Cecile, or simply watching the birds and beauty in his own backyard. He adored his family and was so proud of his sons. We can be sure that the truth of Proverbs 20:7 will endure for them and his grandchildren: “The just man walks in his integrity: blessed are his children after him.”
A visitation will be held from 9am-11am on Tuesday, December 23rd at First Baptist Alabaster, with the funeral service directly following at 11am. Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your outpouring of kindness and support during this time. We are especially thankful for Bill’s church family at First Baptist Alabaster.
