A lifelong lover of Auburn Football, laughter, and family, William “Bill” Webster Neff departed this earthly life peacefully on Wednesday, October 25th at Broadview Assisted Living in Pensacola, Florida. Bill Neff is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” D. Neff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry August Neff, Sr and Myrtle Bates Neff, his brother Henry August Neff, Jr (Marie Smith Neff) and his sisters Sara Frances Neff and Martha Neff Smith (Alfred Smith). He leaves behind a treasure of cousins and nephews and nieces who know and love him as Uncle Bill. Bill was born on February 19, 1927 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Henry and Myrtle Neff. He grew up in a loving family full of laughter. In 1944, he eagerly joined the United States Army and spent time in Japan during the most formidable moments at the close of the United States time in war. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.Bill married his sweetheart Betty after the war. They shared 67 remarkable years together in marriage. He was a devoted and loving husband who had a great passion for his wife Betty. After the untimely death of his older brother, H.A. Neff, Bill became devoted to his brother’s sons, Skip, Dusty, and Billy. He spent more than 10 years volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America with the boys, continuing his brother’s H.A.’s legacy. Through his duty to his country and dedication to his family, he truly lived the Boy Scout Motto of “Be Prepared”. Bill’s success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic. He owned Coast Air Supply. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied. He retired from the business and was able to focus on his love of Bowling. Bill was on a Bowling Team for more than 30 years. Laughter, a bright smile, dancing, and “wise-cracking” as he would say were all things Bill was known and loved for in his life. So, although a limb has fallen from the family tree, it says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, and the good and long life I lived while I was strong. As a once linebacker for his favorite football team, Auburn, Bill loved to sing the fight song…War Eagle fly down the field ever to conquer never to yield. War Eagle fearless and true…On to victory. Services for Bill will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. 35211 Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
