Willodean Woodard Huggins, 93, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on August 15, 2020 peacefully at her home. She was the wife of the late James Eugene Huggins, Jr. (Jimmy). They shared 51 years of marriage together.
Born April 18, 1927 in Moulton, Alabama, Willodean was the daughter of Ennis Woodard and Lillian Montgomery Woodard. She graduated from Lawrence County High School and attended Howard College, now Samford University. She worked with Bell South, as a supervisor, and retired in 1985 with over 30 years of service. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Organization.
She was an active member of 85th Street Baptist Church, now Deerfoot Baptist Church for over 40 years. While at 85th Street, she faithfully served on many committees, enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching children’s choir and loved organizing beautiful bridal teas and banquets. At the time of her death she was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church in Mountain Brook, AL. She will always be remembered for her love of cooking, for her family and others, and for her love of storytelling and making people laugh.
Willodean was preceded in death by her parents, Ennis and Lillian Woodard, her brother, Dwight Woodard (Joyce) and her husband of 51 years, Jimmy Huggins. She is survived by her son, Dr. Phillip Huggins and wife, Cindy, and daughter Bethanne Satcher. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Macye McClure, Jay Huggins, and Haley Huggins Spitler (Dr. Clay Spitler) and three great grandsons Grant, Davis and Caleb Spitler.
Due to Covid-19, there will be a graveside service only at 11am Tuesday August 18,2020, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL for family and friends. The family will remain after the service to greet guest.
