She was born November 19, 1918 to Andrew Wilson and Elizabeth Watkins Smith in North Carolina, but moved with her family to South Carolina as a young girl. She stayed there until she met her future husband, Carl Flick. It was during WWII and he was stationed at Fort Croft in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Love at first sight led the handsome soldier to sweep this southern belle off her feet and make her a Hoosier for the remainder of her days.
As are most farmers’ wives, Beulah was a woman of hard work and integrity. She worked the farm with Carl, and also at Indiana University, from where she retired. Known for getting up early through the week for working, and early on Sunday to “catch up on her worrying”, she kept a close eye and an open heart on those she loved. She was of the Pentecostal Faith loved nothing better than to hear Elvis sing his style of gospel music.
Beulah is survived by her daughter-in-law and caretaker, Alice Flick, her step-daughter Peggy Jo Hobbs and her grandchildren Carla Dellolio, Robyn Flick, Tina Massey, Rachael Flick, Bailey Flick, and Garrett Flick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and her son Robert Flick.
