Dr. G. "Tom" Thomas Childes

Dr. G. “Tom” Thomas Childes, 92, of Bloomington, IN passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was born November 19, 1931 in Anderson, IN the son of the late John and Mary (Knight) Childes. Tom graduated from Purdue University and was on the track team. He then attended graduate school at Indiana University and earned his Dental Degree. After doing so, he also got a specialty degree in Oral Surgery at Indiana University. He was a Captain in the United States Army. He practiced Oral surgery for many years in Bloomington until his retirement. Tom was a member of North Central Church of Christ, where he was an elder for over 40 years. Tom enjoyed his farms, nature, walking in the woods, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed doing mission and oral surgery work in Belize. He will be deeply missed. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sue Ellen (Gerbens) Childes; his three daughters, Kelly Frost and her husband Alistair, Kenda Randall and her husband Mark, and Holly McBroom and her husband Coby, a sister, Nancy Pakes and her husband Steve; sister-in-law, Jeanette Childes; four grandchildren, Emma and Bryson McBroom and Fiona and Tristan Frost; and other beloved extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John “Jack” Childes. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at North Central Church of Christ, 2121 N. Dunn Street, officiated by Dr. Shane Himes. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024 at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third Street.
