

James L. Fagan, age 82, of Spencer, Indiana, died Thursday morning at I.U. Health; Hospice House in Bloomington. Born February 28, 1931 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Ralph Mayer and Mary Catherine (Kurzendoerfer)Fagan. He retired with the rank of Captain in the Indianapolis Fire Department after 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion and V.F. W. in Deerwood, Minnesota. He was a licensed airplane pilot and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his three daughters; Jackie Fagan, of Indianapolis, Sherry (Glenn) Huber of Paragon and Patricia (David) Simanton, of Bloomington; his son, Michael P. (Barbara Dempsey) Fagan, of Monrovia; eight grandchildren, James Wright, Brandy Wright, Nichole Moss, Jason Dempsey, Valerie Dempsey-Melton, Kyle Dempsey, Scott Simanton and Chris Simanton; eleven great-grandchildren, Katie Boeche, Devin Wright, Brooklynn Wright, Bella Burebee, Mia Jaylyn Moss, Triston David Moss, Cole Jackson, Justin Dempsey, Brenden Dempsey, Gabriel Dempsey and Kaleb Dempsey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Fagan whom he married November 11, 1950. She preceded James in death on January 16, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Fagan and Dan Fagan and one sister, Pat Barnes.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Father Mark Gottemoeller officiating. Graveside burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Dixon Cemetery in Worthington, Indiana where the Veterans Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
