Janice Rae Leonard

Janice Rae (Chandler) Leonard, 80, of Bloomington passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 in her home. She was born October 18, 1943 in Bloomington to Fred LeRoy (Buck) Chandler and Lucille Evans Chandler.

Survivors include her two daughters, Gina Edwards of South Bend; Kimberly Turner of Fort Mill, South Carolina and her son Maurice Leonard of Bloomington; 6 grandchildren: Shalika Leonard, Bloomington; Sierra Brown, Indianapolis; Brooke Liburd, Charlotte, NC; Emileigh and Jada Leonard, Bloomington; Ter’sa Washington, Westfield, IN; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Constance Wade of Chicago; Linda (Joseph) Ridley of Willis, TX, a brother, Seth Debro of Bloomington; and several nieces nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maxine Chandler Bridgwaters; and a son in law, Brian Turner.

Janice attended Bloomington High School and was a 1961 graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. She attended Pivot Point International (Beauty School) in Evanston (Chicago), IL, earning a masters and PhD. Janice was an instructor at several beauty schools in Indianapolis, IN. She later became a beauty educator and brand trainer for Dudley’s Hair Products. Traveling throughout the United States, including Hawaii, promoting Dudley’s products, hair shows, and styling competition. She was dedicated to supporting the future of beauty education by her membership in the National Beauty Culturists' League, Inc. and Alpha Chi Pi Omega and Sigma Omega Beta sororities.

Janice was affiliated with and a faithful supporter of Living Love Church and Ministries in Houston, Texas. She had a special flair for fashion and quality clothing, when she stepped out she turned many heads. Her wisdom and knowledge, she shared with others was obtained from her life experiences and her passion for reading, and understanding the importance of continuous learning.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Joseph Ridley officiating in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 East Third Street, Bloomington, IN.
