

Jerry Lee Hyde, age 93, of Bloomington passed away Saturday morning, January 31, 2026 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born December 6, 1932 in Bloomington, he was the son of Charles and Dorothy (Gideon) Hyde. Jerry worked in Quality Control at R.C.A. for 34 years and later as a bus driver for 16 years for M.C.C.S.C. before work retirement. He also served in the Navy Reserve for 22 years before retiring from the Navy. Jerry was a charter member of the Bloomington Hoosier Tonecutters (barbershop singing), longtime member and bowler at Classic Lanes in Bloomington and a member of the American Legion and the Travelin’ Turtles Camping Club. Jerry was a lover of music and singing 4-part harmony. He and his wife, Esther, attended many gospel sings. He and Esther had visited 49 out of the 50 United States throughout their 74 years of marriage. Jerry was also an avid golfer.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Esther J. (Lentz) Hyde, to whom he married on December 8, 1951, his daughter, Darla (Larry) Decker, of Bloomington, his son, Tony (Cindy) Hyde, of Huntington, Indiana; four grandchildren, Tonia (J. Dewayne) Lucas, of Bloomington, Amy Sullivan, of Bloomington, Edmund (Keturah) Hyde, of Huntington, Indiana and Anthony Hyde, also of Huntington, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hyde, his mother, Dorothy (Gideon) Hyde Rayle, one brother in infancy and another brother, Russell Parker.
The Celebration of Life funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
