

Jerry W. Smith, age 67, of Bloomington, died Friday afternoon at his residence after a long illness. Born August 21, 1943 in Bloomington, he was the son of Oliver Winfred Smith, Sr. and Mary (Culbert) Smith. He retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington where he was a machinist. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge, Amvets 2000 and several bowling leagues. He attended Bloomfield Church of Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila D. (Bryant) Smith, of Bloomington; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Howard Pugh, of Ellettsville, Vicky and Christopher Henderson, of Columbus, Debbie and Rick Shively, of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Pamela and Jimmy Birdwell, of Colorado; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Craig and Tresa Breedlove, of Royal Center, Indiana, Christopher Breedlove, of Bloomington, and Scott and Rose Oliver, of Tallahassee, Florida; one sister, Linda Williams, of Owen County, Indiana; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Monte and Renee Smith, of Pittsboro, Indiana and Oliver Winfred Smith, Jr. and Patricia Smith, of Tustin, California; step-mother, Beatrice Smith of Bloomington: granddaughters and their spouses, Alisha Patton, of Bloomington, Tabitha (Brandon) Neal, of Bloomfield, Camille Breedlove and Kirsten Breedlove, both of Royal Center, Katheryn Henderson, Aimy Henderson, Larah Henderson, all of Columbus, Indiana, Serena Henderson-Little, of Michigan city, Indiana, Jenna Shively, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sharlene Oliver, of Tallahassee, Florida and Maley and Megan Birdwell, both of Colorado; grandsons,Cody Breedlove, of Royal Center, Indiana, Josh and Andrew Oliver, both of Tallahassee, Florida, Erick Shively, of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Christopher and Dustin Birdwell, of Colorado; great-granddaughters, Madalyn Neal, of Bloomfield and Tia Little, of Michigan City; great-grandsons, Christopher (C.J.) Sylvester, of Bloomfield and Caleb and Camron Patton, both of Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Sandra Weddle, of Bloomington. Jerry also leaves behind his two dogs that he loved and adored, Chico and Scooter.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, his first wife, Patricia Hendricks Smith and one granddaughter, Patricia Oliver.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Veterans Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites. Friends may visit the family on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
