John Earl Russ 86 went peacefully to the Lord on November 17, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 24, 1924 and lived most of his life in Unionville. He served in the US Navy Pacific during WW2 where he was disabled and lost his brother Robert. He loved this country and was always ready to give a hand to help a veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, ELKS, Disabled American Veterans and the Trench Rats. After working several years at RCA. He opened the Cottage Beauty Salon. It was not only successful but fun for over 25 years. John’s inventive nature created him two patents and a copy write for a computer program. You never knew what he would create next. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Jenny Russ, a sister Wilma Durnal, Brother Robert Russ, a daughter Brenda Sue and his wife of 50 years Phyllis. He is survived by his wife Mary Jean, 4 daughters; Sandra Russ Glass and Steve of Indianapolis; Kay Grizzard and Dan of Yorktown VA; Deanna Longwell and Ed of Stedman NC, Pam Boles and Dennis of Indianapolis, Brother Bill Russ and Laura Lou, Ira Russ and sister Mary Bogie, 3 stepchildren Larry Stevens and Sherry, Sandy Abrams and Randy, Donna Max and Dave. To live his legacy he has 11 grandchildren and 22 great grand children Visitation will be Friday, Nov 19th from 3-8 at Day Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be Saturday Nov 20 at 12 noon Burial with full military honors will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Day Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
