Marilyn was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Watkins. She grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois, graduated from Prospect High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.
Marilyn married her college sweetheart, John (Pete), and together they raised two incredible daughters. Marilyn nurtured them with unwavering attention and deep love. She taught them to be grateful for the things they have; the people around them; the beauty in nature and the little things in life.
Marilyn worked as a Medical Technologist at IU Health Hospital in a supervisory position. She enjoyed her coworkers and working in the healthcare service.
In 2012 she was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia. Upon learning of this diagnosis, she felt a renewed urgency to travel while still able. She and her husband traveled the world with friends and family. Marilyn also loved spending time with grandchildren: searching for treasures with Lexi; watching Zach play soccer; and traveling throughout the Midwest to watch Max and Liam play soccer”.
Summers in Michigan, family gatherings, reunions, and get aways with the “P” girls (Prospect High School girlfriends) were especially meaningful and important to her.
Marilyn accomplished so much, led a stellar life, embracing two beautiful daughters, four beautiful grandchildren, and a loving & funny husband. We are thankful she was able to experience all of this. Her legacy continues through the lives of those who knew and loved her.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, John; daughters Patti (Jim) and Melissa (Aaron); grandchildren Lexi, Zach, Max, and Liam; sister Cheryl (Stuart), brother Bruce (Kathy) and her twin brother, James (Vicki), who preceded her in death.
