Passed away Monday, September 9, 2025
Michael L. Grubbs lived life on his own terms. He traveled the world, visiting places most only dream of, and carried with him a deep appreciation for every experience.
Mike was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on June 15, 1954. He served his country as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army, and while stationed in West Germany, he met Zivka “Zizi” (Desanovska), the love of his life. They were married for nearly 50 years. The couple made their home in Bloomington, Indiana, and later retired from their business, European Skin Care by Zizi, moving to their home in Ohrid, Macedonia.
Michael was part of the first graduating class of Greenfield-Central High School in 1972 and later graduated from Indiana University. Intelligent and well-read, he spoke several languages and possessed a worldly presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was known for his sharp wit, infectious laughter, and a heart full of love. Handsome, charming, and endlessly curious, he lived a lifetime of memories that will be cherished and fondly recalled by all who knew him.
Michael was a devoted husband, a loving son, an incredible brother, a fun and unforgettable uncle, and a loyal friend. To a life well lived… bravo. He is deeply loved and will be missed always.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Zizi; his mother, Jean Ann (Besanceney) Grubbs; his brothers, Dane (Mary) Grubbs, Todd (Sharon) Grubbs, and Eric (Tammy) Grubbs; nephews Jeremy Grubbs, Stephan Grubbs, Jordan Mahaney, and Tyler Mahaney; nieces Alexis Grubbs, Emily (Grubbs) Gilmore, Abby Grubbs, Stella Grubbs, Anita (Desanovski) Sumner, and Aleksandra Desanovski-Burns; and brothers-in-law Kole (Ruska) Desanovski and Ljupco (Slavica) Desanovski. He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Grubbs.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Day & Deremiah Frye Funeral Home, 4150 East Third Street, Bloomington, IN 47401.
