Norma Jean (Ison) Van Deventer, 88, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, March 1st, 2023 at Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana surrounded by her family. Norma was born on August 31, 1934 in Hendricksville, Indiana, daughter of the late Max Ison and Leapha Gayle (Abram) Ison, and was a graduate of Solsberry High School. In 1952 she married the love of her life Warren Van Deventer and they enjoyed more than sixty years together.
Norma was an accomplished insurance agent beginning her career with Julian Insurance Agency and retiring from Kritzer Insurance in Bloomington. Her faith was central to her life and she was a lifelong member of Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville. Norma’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband Warren Van Deventer, and siblings Robert Ison and Betty Freeman. Norma is survived by her son Ed Van Deventer (Debra) of Oro Valley, Arizona, daughter Debra Wagner (Phil) of Greenwood, Indiana, grandchildren Kelli Higgins (Chris), Matthew Van Deventer (Rebecca), and Travis Wagner, and great-granddaughters Michaela Higgins, Melanie Higgins, and Lillian Van Deventer.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Liberty Church of Christ, 12884 East McVille Road, Solsberry, with Justin Johnson and Keevin Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberty Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday March 5, 2023 from 3:00 -6:00pm at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 East Third Street, Bloomington and on Monday from 10:00 am until service time at the church.
