

Richard E. McGuire, age 102, died Thursday morning at the Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington. Born November 24, 1907 in Brown County, he was the son of James Auther McGuire and Lena (Parks) McGuire Percifield. His father died when Richard was eight years old and grew up under the care of his aunt and uncle, Grotis and Irene McGuire in Paxton, Illinois. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and later served in the U.S. Coast Guard during W.W.II. After leaving the military, he became the stage manager at the Indiana University Auditorium until his retirement at the age of 70. During his life, he stayed active as a member of the First Christian Church, Monroe Masonic Lodge #32, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Stonebelt Shrine Club and American Legion Post #18. He also served as a Democrat precinct committeeman and the business agent and union organizer of Union Local #618 of I.A.T.S.E. (Stagehands Union).
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and James Jacobs, of Bloomington; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Julie and Scott Roberts and Angie and Nick LaFary; four grandchildren, Alexis and Samantha Roberts, Riley May and Libby LaFary and one half-sister, Louise Swift, of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Stevens) McGuire on August 9, 2003 three brothers, Alva, Carl and James McGuire, one sister, Jenny White and one half-brother, Grover McGuire, Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Heimer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery where the Veterans Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.m. where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M.
