Robert Charles English, 83, of Bloomington, passed away on March 4, 2026, at Stonecroft Health Campus. Robert was born on February 15, 1943, in New York City to parents James and Agnes English. He married Carol Osmanski, and they spent many happy years together raising their family. Robert worked as an electrical engineer at Crane Naval Base. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed giving back to his community. He loved to be out in nature, and had been active in scouting. He was a dedicated volunteer for SCORE, an organization which provides support for small businesses. He also assisted in building accessible ramps for wheelchair users.
Those who met him, saw a quiet, reserved man. Those who had the great good fortune to get to know him, saw a wise and gentle soul with healthy sense of humor and earnest desire to both learn and teach.
Though he was a man of science, Robert still had a sense of whimsy. He enjoyed fantasy literature, science fiction, and folklore and was even known to occasionally sit down and watch Saturday morning cartoons with his children.
He loved to share his passion for of cooking and world cuisine whenever he got the chance. And though the younger versions of his children may have been trepidatious, the adults they grew into are eternally grateful to have been shown a world beyond the chicken nugget.
An avid reader, Robert had a love the written word in all its forms from puns to poetry and shared this with others through his creative stories, and haikus, and spirited games of Scrabble. Above all, he encouraged his children from a very young age to continually expand their vocabulary, so that they could communicate with thoughtfulness, empathy, intelligence and when appropriate, a sense of humor.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Carol English; children Aaron (Melanie) English and Erica (Michael) Harrah; granddaughter Zoey English; and brother Tom English.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Agnes English, infant daughter Heather English, and sister Mary English.
He will be deeply missed.
