

Sandra Gaskins of Bloomington, IN died at age 81, in early morning of September 21th, 2023. Sandra, known by her friends and colleagues as, Sandy, was born in Bloomington, IN on January 20th 1942. Her mother, Bernice Gaskins, and her grandparents moved to Spencer, IN during Sandy’s early years. She had fond memories of her mother, and later in her life, caring for her mother as her health declined.
In 1989, at the age of 47, Sandy went to Stone Belt Arc to get support services. She became a resident at Miller House, where she quickly made friends with her roommates and staff.
While at Stone Belt Arc she found great purpose in her career journey. First, she worked in food services at Indiana University. Then using her passion for fashion, she worked at Goody’s Family Clothing for an impressive 10 years. Next she switched things up and worked for Stone Belt’s manufacturing department, working with and creating medical parts in cooperation with Cook Medical. During this period in her journey she also invested time growing her art skills and sold artwork through Stone Belt. The last decade of her career journey was working at the County of Monroe Clerk's Office, where she made close friends with her colleagues.
Sandy’s Christian faith was vital throughout her life. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. And in more recent years grew close with her City Church members.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Gaskins and her grandparents. She will be greatly missed by her friends, colleagues, and staff at Stone Belt and the Clerk’s Office.
Sandy’s Celebration of Life will be held at City Church, Bloomington, IN at 12:30pm on Thursday, October 5th. By her request, you are invited to wear bright colors in celebration of her life.
