

Sue graduated from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. She maintained a lifetime membership with Delta Delta Delta.
Sue started with the City of Bloomington Title XX Child Care Program in 1986. She worked her way up to become the Director of Human Resources, responsible for the Nutrition Project for the Elderly, the Farmers’ Market, Women’s Commission, Helene’s House for the homeless, and many other projects. While Director of Human Resources under Mayor Tomi Allison, Sue was charged with researching and establishing the Bloomington/Monroe County Community Foundation as well as the Self Sufficiency Task Force. Sue's special skill was to work with community social service directors to initiate and create various Social Service Services that would then become self-sustaining. Sue also worked as Dietician for the Monroe County Correctional Center, which she found very rewarding.
Sue was a member of the First United Church in Bloomington and the IU Health Bloomington Hospital Local Council of Women.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Terry, of Carmel, Indiana, her sister, Jane Sauchak, of Canton, Michigan, her sister-in-law, Barbara Clark, of Bloomington and two grandchildren, Stephen Terry and Erin Terry. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gerry Gordon Wheeler, in 1994.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 28 at the First United Church at 11 A.M. with Rev. Caela Simmons Wood officiating. Friends may visit the family on Sunday at Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third Street , Bloomington, IN. from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be given to Middle Way House or to the charity of one’s choice.
