Walter “John” Ooley, 94, of Bloomington died Monday, November 18, 2019 in Richland Bean Blossom Health Care. He was born May 13, 1925 in Monroe County to William Henry Ooley and Dorothy Isom Ooley. He was a retired mechanic from NSWC Crane. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Elsie Bernice Phipps Ooley of Bloomington; a son, Dan Ooley of Indianapolis; a daughter, Sylvia (husband Ted) Theiste of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Raddatz and Louise Wray. Memberships include Cross Roads United Methodist Church, F&AM Monroe Lodge 22, and VFW Post #22. John served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, especially euchre and spending time with his family. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St with Pastor Ray New officiating; burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens where Military Honors will be performed by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Saturday from 9:00 – 1:00 in the funeral home.
