Wauneta Laverne Bookwalter, 91, of Bloomington died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in her home with her family at her side. She was born December 3, 1928 in Bloomington to Rolla Neal and Roxie Fulford Neal. She was retired from RCA and Indiana University where she had been a telephone operator. Survivors include her two daughters, Lori (Randy) James and Teresa (Ralph) Barger, both of Bloomington; eleven grandchildren, Tina M. (Mike) Baker, Kris L. (Faron) Lake, Mikel T. (Shea) Bookwalter, Cary A. Baker II, Corina J. (Tim) Waxenfelter, Waylon (Rebecca) James, Benjamin James, Bryce N. (Kara) Bookwalter, Britany R. (Damion) Crowley, Tessa (Stephen) Selkman and her children and Artisha (Gerek) Crabtree and her children; thirteen great grandchildren, Zachery Heilder, Kennedy VanMeter, Aubry Bookwalter, Madison Bookwalter, Lucy Bookwalter, Rhue Bookwalter, Annabella Bookwalter, Lennon James, Harrison James, Amaya James, Hank James, Garrett Baker and Robin Bookwalter; two great great grandchildren, Rhys Williams and Veronica Heidler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Earl Bookwalter; three sons, Gary A. Bookwalter, Mikel E. Bookwalter and Neal R. Bookwalter; a granddaughter, Bethany Bookwalter; a brother, Holland J. Neal; and a sister, Betty L. Thacker. Wauneta was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. Although she had worked at RCA and Indiana University her main job was being a mother of five. Other hobbies included sewing, crocheting, word puzzles and playing bingo. Private Family Services will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Helmsburg where she will be buried next to Earl. Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
